Mohun Bagan to Challenge AFC's Withdrawal Decision Through Legal Route
Mohun Bagan to Legally Contest AFC's Decision on Withdrawal
Withdrawal from AFC Champions League 2
Mohun Bagan Super Giant is set to take a legal route to challenge its withdrawal from the Asian Champions League Two, as decided by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The club was scheduled to play Iranian top division side Tractor FC on October 2, but tensions between Iran and Israel led to the team's decision not to travel to Iran due to security concerns.
Security Concerns and AFC's Decision
The international development saw the Indian embassy issue a directive advising Indian citizens against traveling to Iran unless absolutely necessary. The AFC subsequently announced that Mohun Bagan had been considered withdrawn from the tournament for not turning up for the match, eliminating the club from any position in the tournament.
AFC's Statement
The AFC stated that all matches played by Mohun Bagan Super Giant would be cancelled and considered null and void, with no points and goals taken into consideration when determining the final rankings in Group A.
Mohun Bagan's Response
Mohun Bagan has expressed its intention to challenge the AFC's decision through legal means. A source from the club stated, "We had our plans ready. Our practice and preparations were done. We decided not to travel not without reason. But if and when their mail or acknowledgement comes to us, we will take the matter to court."
Legal Action
The club is in touch with international football lawyers and plans to take the matter to court to challenge the AFC's decision. The source added, "We are in touch with some international football lawyers and the club will try its best to get to the end of it."
